I'm pretty sure it is straight through. I checked my
manual: pins 1-5 are metering 1-5, pin 6 is NC, and
pin 7 is ground. They specify some 5-conductor
shielded cable, 11 inches long. I didn't make mine
that long, which might be a mistake - I won't know
until I try to put it into the chassis.
I
Hi Kevin,
In repeater-builders under links ... Motorola there is a PDF listed for
interfacing a controller to the MTR 2000. I get an error when trying to
access this PDF. I can read others. Is it something wrong here or has it
been deleted? Can you email it to me?
Thanks,

You know, Bob, that's not a bad idea...
The hardest thing will be making a jig for drilling the holes at the correct
spacing. And I think I have some brass finishing nails around here -
somewhere.
Another project. One of the things I like about the hobby - I can always
putter around and make
Or, you could just buy the 7-pin plug from Motorola Parts. It's part

I've noticed that I can get a lot better sensitivity on my receivers if
the source I'm measuring against is either unmodulated, or I set the
deviation to 1 or 2 kHz. When I get up to 3-5 kHz deviation, the
apparent sensitivity of the receiver is significantly less.
I notice this on many
I thought that's the whole idea behind the SINAD
measurement method, and why it's so much better than
the 20dB quieting method.
I figure this reply will elicit all sorts of opinion,
so I'll just sit back and let it fly. We're due for a
heated discussion.

Dave,
Depending upon the symmetry of the IF and detector component responses,
there will be a difference in the apparent sensitivity with different
deviation levels. The operative word is apparent. If you intend to use
the receiver for FM voice which averages about 3 kHz deviation, then you
Thanks for that information, Eric!
It's nice to know that the plug is still available from Motorola parts.

Hi
on the rx discriminator is ther a test point ?.
You may have to connect a test meter and from a signal generator input a
fairly heafty signal and tune the discriminator for either zero or center
balance.
As a matter of interest what is the rx 25kc or 12.5
if 25 then peak dev is +/- 5Kc/s and

It may well be, but for those of us without sinadders, then what?

I'm willing to guess that if you built one, someone here on this list
could help you calibrate it against their service monitor.

I wouldn't mind building a sinadder, but I don't know how I'd
calibrate it.

Hello to the list. A very good and super inexpensive Sinad meter can be
an old Heathkit audio distortion meter. Any distortion meter will work,
but the old Heathkit units are around and are super cheap. Simply
connect across the loudspeaker and with a strong signal into the radio

Hi
This is true, part of the problem maybe it is limiting
due to say being a 12.5Kc and the mobiles are
over deviating, ie, peaking at over 3kc/s or so.
Just a thought.

You say a drawer?? I have a manual on a Harris CT-1555 VHF/FM car
telephone. According to the spec sheet the FCC approvals on the RX and
TX modules are the same 1555A1. If it is in a drawer, maybe it is some
kind of a remote base or something operating in the same MTS or RCC
phone system
