Here is my setup. I have a MastrII mobile which was converted a long time
ago. I was having trouble with my controller a while back and went with
Echostation. As far as I know everything was working fine for a while then
over the past few weeks I started having this strange problem. After
Are you experiencing the exactly same problem with Echostation as you
had with the old controller? If so, it's probably something wrong in the
MastrII radio. I would troubleshoot this by taking the covers off of
everything so that I can access several points in the transmit audio
chain. I'd
The old controller was actually having problems opening up when the radio
went into receive. So it's a bit different. I am trying to get my hands on
another controller to see if that helps. Also may try putting the old
controller back in to see if it starts working any better.

Mastr II/ Exec II transmitters can have ~5vdc on mic high, this is
the bias for the amplifier in a normal microphone. If you do not have
a capacitor in series to the computer interface or the computer
interface has a polarized cap that is in the wrong direction, strange
things like this can
Sure don't have that cap on there and on my radio it's 9.7v on that mic
line. Trying a blocking cap now to see if it fixes the issue.
I will keep you posted.

If you are not using a local microphone (I don't) my solution is to simply
remove the bias to mic high and forget messing with a cap.

You said it was a mastrII, there's a resistor on the exciter that connects
the 10v line to the MIC HI if my memory is correct. If you haven't already,
you might adjust the exciter modulation pot back n forth as somebody
mentioned.

Let me tell you a little story about this kind of problem. I had a similar
situation on a VHF mastr II repeater where a signal sounded great one time and
noisy the next. The problem turned out to be a hairline crack in a solder pad
that was used to bridge two circuit boards and the output

A word of caution may be in order since you are dealing with a club.
These days, the typical ham doesn't begin to comprehend the complexity of a

equipment, plug it all together, and it runs. Wrong!

Someone else suggested moving the pot. Hit it with some cleaner and work it

Also FS is a Selectone ST 180 shared repeater panel with 2 tones installed

Your antenna needs to come down and be gone over before you buy anything new.
Those G7s will get bad connections in them that act like diodes and rectify all
kinds of crud to desense your otherwise good system. I understand that there is
a document on the RB site about refurbing that antenna.
Im confused on the J-Pole calculations.
I calculate mine was 3/4 y = 13.36' (About 14 feet, tip to mast)
Phasing U = 4.45 feet, with a 8.91 foot stinger off one leg of the U.
John, you wanted to know what I built, best from memory 10 years ago, with

Rick,
If your repeater is a version 1.0 it is covered under the recall service
bulletin they came out several years back. All you would have to do is take
it to a Kenwood service shop and they could fix it or send it to Kenwood and
they will fix it as well.

Check the Kreco line of antennas. They have a 6-m coaxial dipole that
should perform as well as or slightly better into the valleys than the
j-pole antenna. You have two options the CO-41A or the CO-41H, depending
upon your bank account and the weather severity of your site. The shunt
