Hi all,
Note that Retrospect is able to back up *most* open files. Most database
files though will be inaccessible to other application while they are in use
by the database.

Retrospect will detect that the drive has compression and will override the
software settings, so having software compression enabled should not affect

I realize that my last post is a little unclear (thanks, Mark!). The

What is the priority of operations? Does "Writing to any tape that is

does it seek named tapes first and resort to erased tapes if it can't find

Also, why does it treat erased tapes that have been

Hi Bob,
If you insert a VXA tape, the tape drive *must* get to the beginning of the
tape in order to read the header information. Retrospect has no way of
knowing what tape it's dealing with if the tape drive can't report the
information stored in the header.

Hi Todd,
We spoke yesterday on the phone. In addition to updating drivers for the
network card, you may also want to uninstall TCP/IP, restart and reinstall
it. Of course, the quickest test for determining where to focus
troubleshooting is to install Retrospect on another machine and try to log
drive, personal data on another, and work
material on the third. This allows for incremental backups without being
redundant.
Hope that helps!

You're absolutely right; the catalog file for a file backup set is different
