I have never gotten the web proxy code to work correctly in yum. I
have always had to do the following:
export HTTP_PROXY=nameofproxy
export HTTPS_PROXY=nameofproxy
then yum update.

No, I haven't tried the included nfs root support (you mean the
install-over-nfs feature?). But as you say, it shouldn't have much
