Scorche is currently paying $700 / year to host rockbox.org Propose some of the donated money go towards the hosting bills Anyone have a better idea?

Scorche is currently spending $700 / year hosting rockbox.org I propose we help offset that with some donations on top of that its time we updated the site I think github.io would be a viable path forward for some of the load ~100 Gb/month also I propose we make the forums a searchable archive

I'm skeptical of this. Is there proof of this expense? I'm also skeptical of this idea of removing forums. I'm even skeptical of the motives of those in charge here. It is unacceptable to me that the paypal donations are not both public and in realtime. If you compare this random post about

I can't speak to the hosting costs and donation rates, but as someone who ran the forums for a long time, I can see a very real benefit to 'retiring the old and starting over.' People often want to respond to extremely old threads, not realizing that the information is outdated and no longer

From #rockbox-community: [23:52:41] I pay $60 a month for my server, but was going to scale down a tier once I was able to rewrite things and be able to update packages (which never came to fruition). I could probably scale down without upgrading, I think That's 60 USD/mo out of his own

I'm fully in favor of replacing the forums with something more modern, if Discourse/ provides the features we need (which is not that much, honestly). The Haxx-hosted portions (main site, downloads, build server, git, wiki, etc.) seem to work well enough, and so I think we should leave them be
