If you go writing/reading IO addresses you won't always get nice clean
traps. If addresses are actually mapped to IO regions you can get some
pretty whacky results. The machine just hanging on you isn't unexpected in

Do you mean linux or rtlinux? You can disable the console print for
RTLinux by setting the module parameter 'quiet' to 1.
For Linux itself, there's no easy way. You can control run-time messages
with syslog but boot-time messages are a different story.
