One thing I forgot to mention in my first postÂ…
While for me seeing the PEOPLE attending have always been the number 1
attraction, the clinics are one aspect of GOING to the convention. Not
everyone can attend. Including meals, my 1/3 of the hotel bill and buying a
few new vender room items,
Does anybody have any experience with the Railmaster 4-4-0 and 2-6-0 old time
locomotive kits, such as assembly complexity, etc.

I'm fairly close to some of the 'deciders' in our regional NMRA
organization. They are faced with continual rising costs and poorer
members. They are starting to think of having there annual convention

I'm a bit confused here, and I really don't know who to ask to set
things straight. If I'm not in error here, Walt Jopke announced that
the CGW convention cars were not going to happen and our money was going
to be refunded. Now I see that the car is now available and that the

boB,
I built a 4-4-0 from the RailMaster kit, but it's been over ten years ago.
I don't remember having any major issues, other than shoehorning a DCC
decoder in the smokebox, which you don't need to do for string power. I did
write about it in the NASG Dispatch and I'd have to read my own
Bob,
As I understand it, the R-t-R Convention Car will not be forthcoming,
but you can buy a kit with the correct Creco door from Des Plaines along with
decals to letter you car yourself.
Hope that is correct.

Yes, attending multiple conventions really runs up the expense. I am
already thinking about 2014.
I want to attend the NMRA National Convention in Cleveland for the clinics,
plus I know there are a lot of S guys there too.
I would also like to attend the NASG in Wisconsin a few days
The reality is that I have received my money back for the purchases of the
2010 convention cars and I have already sent that, and more to DesPlaines
Hobbies. If Harley keeps things straight I'll be getting my 6 cars some time in
the next few weeks. What I am actually looking forward to even

That's actually all I need--kit and decals--I still build stuff when I
have time. I only plan on building a couple so it shouldn't take any
elaborate jigs, unless Mr. Lane would like to put them together at
Chinese wages!!!
And yes the Fowler car will be welcomed on my layout, after all it
Hi Andrew;
It is a future offering planned by Des Plaines to follow the X29.
It is a 40 ft car based on DRGW prototype. Some test shots were available for
show at the Amherst show 2 years ago (along with shots of the X29).

I almost didn't attend the NASG convention in Scranton. Faced with several
hundred dollars and being on a fixed retirement income, I didn't see how I
could justify spending all that money. I came up with a compromise: a one-day
blitz. I had my layout open for three days of the convention, so I

Not to put words in Jamie's mouth, but at the Saturday night banquet he
apologized for the lack of name badges. It was after the fact that he
learned that the hotel could have printed the badges for him.

Any photos of the locomotive? Any construction issues to be wary of? I'm
getting some ideas about a different direction for SHABBONA, funds permitting,
of course. Above all else, at this stage of the game, how much time and

I did the same thing for the S Fest in St. Louis in 2011, and again, while

It certainly wasn't a major complaint because it was a great convenion. Jamie

more detail than I can do here. If you can build a resin kit, you can
