One of my grandfathers used horses on his farm until about 1955. He had an 
English Fordosn tractor for heavy field work, plowing and working the ground. 
He used the horses for planting, cutting hay, grain binder, corn binder and 
hauling hay from the field. 

My Dad hauled milk from farms to the Gridley Dairy in Milwaukee WI. I went with 
him as often as I could. The dairy had horsed until about 1947. I can remember 
seeing the horses going and coming back to the dairy. I also remember a semi 
bringing loads of hay for the horses. When they got rid of the horses, they 
bought Divco trucks.

I also remember a few "rag men" who used horses to pull their wagon in 
MIlwaukee. I think the last of them was about 1950's
