It'd be hard to imagine a SAM being so beyond repair that it could be
gutted to use the case. Gutting a living SAM would have to be treated
as murder, with the usual penalties... ;-)

I would do it immediatelly, provided that: I had a completelly and beyond
any repair destroyed SAM, or just the SAM case, and I had a few more Euros
to spend on the PC board.
