Hi,
I have problems with Samba 3.0.0 on my debian box. I first noticed this
problems after the last dist-upgrade of my debian installation.
When I'm reading a file from the smaba share and browsing another share
from the same samba server, I have several hangs and browsing is very
slow. It
Is anyone else experiencing problems with offline files and folders on Win
2K (SP4)? They are set up OK but when the Win2K machine goes off line and
files are modified it won't sync back when back on the network. Error
message from the file sync on windows is 'Access denied' (on the server)

I'm in the process of setting up Samba 3 on a Fedora core machine with a
second machine being an XP machine. I can ping from either machine to the
other. The command smbclient -L netbiosname on the linux machine gives me a
Connection to netbiosname failed
On the XP machine I've enabled Wins
as an adder: here is the error message:
pdb_getsampwnam: unable to open TDB passwd (/etc/samba/passdb.tdb)!
Any ideas on how to fix or even what the problem is? I changed the permissions to
wide open and no change.
Thanks

Hi guys,
me again. Please, I would like to know if this is a bug/
incompatibility with windows 2003 server.
I would like that someone that has accounts stored on windows
2003 server make a test and try to change a password of one of
those users from a linux box using smbpasswd -r w2k3_host -U
Are there any drawbacks to building SAMBA as a user other than root? I would
like to build using a different account. But USING SAMBA 2nd Edition says,
Before running the configure script, it is important that you become the root
user on the system. The make examples in both USING SAMBA and
smbclient doesn't need samba.
Here is how I would trouble shoot this:
smbclient -d9 -L netbiosname junklog
Look for lmhosts in junklog. smbclient will try to find your netbios name
with:
lmhosts hosts wins broadcast
in that order by default.
Hosts is DNS or /etc/host
Look to see if the log
Oh, yes, it may not be obvious which smb.conf file your smbd is using. I
find that:
strings `which smbd` | grep smb.conf
helps

IBM put a Redpaper up today which describes the deployment of Samba on their

I have a redhat9 box running samba 2.2.8a acting as a file server for about

2 users are unable to connect every couple of days.
If I reset their password in linux (not samba) they can get back in for a
day or two.
