We have two sites, one has a Solaris 8 PDC running Samba v3.0.20.
The other has a SuSE 9.3 PDC running Samba v3.0.20b.
I upgraded them both to Samba v3.0.21, and had similar problems. Profiles were
often not being saved and I was getting an INTERNAL ERROR in the Samba log when
a user logged in.

Perhaps a stupid question: you are sure you DID mount the cdrom on the
linux console? If I do not mount it (or umount it) a can confirm the
symptom you are describing.

Hello,
Is there a special permission setting or command for Samba shares
on a seperate partition? I can access share /tmp, /var/tmp, or any other
folder that I define in the samba.conf on hda2 but not a folder which is
located on a different partition.
I have the path as /hda3/FTP/Pub.
If you have more than one CDROM on your machine, the correct share
path might be something like
path = /media/cdrom1

Not a fix but a suggestion: rip the CD to an ISO file and mount it as a
loopback device. Share the loopback mount point and you will have much
improved performance over sharing the CD directly.

I am attempting to save files from MS Word into a directory located on a

saved with permission 766 rather than 666, which is what I want them
saved as.
This is the pertinent part of the smb.conf. file.

Hey Matthew,
Thanks for the link. Reading their implementation gave me better insight
into how it should all fit together and work. I was able to get out test
boxes to talk happily to one another.

I have a similar problem.
When I use smbldap-passwd from command line, the sambaPwdMustChange field are

Hello,
i just set up Samba 3.0.20b on a new machine as PDC with the MySQL
passdb backend and experiencing problems with the connection to the
SQL-Server. The connection gets lost and is not created again. So i have
to restart Samba for authentication and so on to work again...
