how do i hide a directory with for example with just the Hidden attrib from
the windows explorer.

you want to
hide with a .
IE Movies
mv Movies .Movies
Then it will appear when you choose show hidden folders. I am not sure
how to do it through explorer.

Yes, if your filesystem supports EA's, then set :
map hidden = no
map
