I'm aware of that possibility, and in some sense I've done that in the
past. But for this particular hop, I'd prefer to keep the IP and hostname
of the relief machine as

So even tho the DNS name and IP address of the new machine is different
than the old machine, the Windows/Samba name of the new machines would
be that of the old machine.
But I haven't tried this myself.

machine. You could copy all the samba stuff over to the new machine,
