I noticed a strange behaviour in recent Scid versions. When I change desktops
in Linux/KDE from Scid desktop and back, popup chessboard is displayed. This
is quite awkward - maybe it can be fixed?

I think that is preferred format and, as far as I know, the one used by most
chess software. The space before the move is optional, so it can be added if
the 'Space' option is enabled.
Moreover, I don't think the space between one and three dots
problems.
Today I run an automatic analysis of all 26 games in a small database. Though
no other database was open, Scid used up to 600M during the process (and after
it).
It also crashed three times, mostly near mating positions but this is probably
unrelevant
