Does SL5.2 run on the Intel I7 processors? Any magic involved?

I have logged into one beta machine where someone had it working.
I didn't do the install myself so not sure if any magic was required.

We had trouble running SL 5.2 with Intel I7 processor and the Asus
PT6 MB (x58 Intel chipset).
We had no troubles using SL 5.3 though.

If it's any help, I know that both CentOS 5.2 5.3 run on the i7.

In tests we found that the sl52 installer kernel happy enough on i7
desktop machines - but there are i7 specific improvements listed in the
changelogs of the kernels for sl53 (those
