LEAD STORY

BANK CONSOLIDATES, RUNS DEDICATED DOMINO SERVER | The Four Hundred

Banco do Brasil had a number of individual AS/400s spread throughout
Europe, running its native OS/400 banking application and Domino for
e-mail, calendaring, and workflow. But it decided it could save money
and cut down on complexity by consolidating to just three iSeries
servers, including a Dedicated Server for Domino Model 270.

IBM UPDATES DIRECTORY PORTFOLIO | Lotus Advisor
IBM has released Directory Server 5.1, a foundation for identity
management and Web services architectures, and Directory Integrator
5.1, a metadirectory for synchronizing information without a central
database. Together they help provide directory integration
capabilities in Lotus, DB2 and WebSphere. IBM is billing the new
versions as more secure and easier on admins and users.

SPRINT TAKES CORPORATE IM TO THE NEXT LEVEL | Computerworld
Sprint is hoping to take enterprise IM to the next level by letting
employees access corporate information stored in inventory systems or
customer databases. Sprint's Universal Application Messaging helps
employees communicate with applications. For instance, they could use
IM to look up a co-worker's phone number stored in a human resources
directory.

IT SUFFERS ITS WORST YEAR EVER | IDG
IDC says this will be the worst year ever for the IT industry.
Worldwide revenue in 2002 will slip 2.3% to $875 billion, the largest
decline in history. The researcher is more optimistic about 2003.

THE MISSING LINK | Software helps pandas pair up

Did you know pandas have personals? Some new species-specific
software is helping the threatened animals find their perfect mates.
Breeding pandas in captivity is a tricky business, so experts
designed the software to help pair pandas from zoos across the globe
using their health and bloodlines as matchmaking criteria. But it's
certainly more fun to think of what a panda personal would look like:
Single black and white male in search of endangered female for
short-term relationship. Must want cubs, enjoy long strolls in an
enclosure and love bamboo. No smokers. Are you the one?
