LEAD STORY:
"Instant messaging vendors focus on standard to make chat simple"
One of the major impediments to instant messaging is the lack of
interoperability among the many providers. It appears, however, that
Session Initiation Protocol for Instant Messaging and Presence
Leveraging (SIMPLE) is emerging as the leading standard. In fact,
Lotus and AOL are working on a SIMPLE server-to-server
interoperability trial.

[1] "Divine buying Eprise in $43M deal"
IT services firm divine is taking on Lotus head on with its
acquisition of content management company Eprise. The $43 million
all-stock deal enables divine to couple content management with
collaboration, something analysts say Lotus has not been able to
accomplish.

[2] "Hard-to-track Nimda worm may be peaking"
Nimda outbreaks in servers worldwide are lessening, according to
security experts, but those same experts admit they may never know
how many PCs are infected. One agency tracking the number of
infections originally placed it at 150,000 worldwide, but by late
yesterday, that number had dropped to 66,000; a better reduction rate
than Code Red. Nimda spreads in PCs via e-mail and shared network
disks, and in servers, by exploiting one of 16 access points in
vulnerable machines running unpatched versions of Microsoft's
Internet Information Server (IIS) software.

THE MISSING LINK
A look at an off-the-wall story off the Web
-------------------------------------------------
"News, Nostradamus knock out sex in cybersearches"
Here's more proof of how drastically things have changed since the
Tuesday of terror. For the first time, the word "sex" is not among
the top 10 search terms on the Internet. Sex has been displaced by
news and information relative to the terrorist attacks. An official
with AltaVista said more people are putting "Osama bin Laden" into
their search boxes than "Pamela Lee Anderson," and Old Glory herself
(the American flag) is stirring more interest in cyberspace than
Britney Spears. Google reported a search surge for words like "CNN,"
"World Trade Center," "Taliban" and "American Red Cross," but none of
them was as sought-after as the word "Nostradamus." People wanted to
know just how valid that "Nostradamus predicted this" e-mail was. (It
wasn't.)
