I'll try this: 12 gauge wire is 0.0808 inches in diameter, which means the circumference is (pi * .0808), which is about 1/4. So the surface area of the wire is about 6 * 1/4, or 1.33 square inches. That could be very close to the surface area of the coin, depending on the diameter of the
