To insulate the electronics from the outside. Just as sitting inside a
car will protect you from lightning, if you have your hand on any metal,
you can get a shock, I suspect that you do need to isolate the item
being protected from the cage.

If I were you I'd try some borax [twenty mule team]. If the lesions can take it
use a soft toothbrush and gently clean the lesions with that then use some CS
on them and continue to take internally. If they cannot handle a soft brush
then just mix a bit with water and make a paste
The cardboard, when dry,is a good insulator,and cheap.
Most plastic containers ,if small enough to fit in same g. can, should work
too, as long as the electronics do not touch the metal.

There was a video by a doctor (can't remember his name) talking about earthing
and he said you can just step outside and step on the ground with barefeet,
you can do it sitting too. He further said that wetting the ground before you
stand on it would even give you more energy.
