Gordy,
You are absolutely right.
There are many articles covering contests, unbiased reviews, how-to's and
tips in every issue covering all genres of RC Soaring.
Over the years RCSD has remained the only RC soaring specific publication

After you have read the articles written by Sherman Knight, what is
your opinion/ experience with 2.4?
We'd all like to hear your thoughts on the subject. AFTER having read the

what wire I should use to accomplish this? Also, what wire can I use
to extend a JR600 receiver as well, which is in my 3M?

I think that it is a very well written and informative article about the 2.4
ghz Spektrum system. I would only add two comments that I feel are important.
Sherman's article only addresses the JR 921 receiver or the Spektrum 9000 which
is the same rx but in a different colored plastic case.
Wire? Doesn't matter. I've used a steel pushrod and the junky wire that was
laying in my junk drawer. Just be sure the installation is flat, relatively
straight and of equal length to the stocker (~ 41 inches for 72Mhz). AND
that it will be able to handle whatever flex may occur. Also be darned
I am waiting to see what the recently released Airtronics stylus 2.4
has ot offer. 2.4 in general has huge appeal to me.

In response to the Failsafe issue.
There are several 2.4 receivers in the JR Horizon Hobby Catalog. They are:
1.AR9000 15 Grams Comes with both Smart Safe and Model Match
2.R921 (JR branded AR9000, I think) Same as above
3.AR7000 14 grams Comes with both Smart Safe and

Sherman, I liked your article and found a lot of valuable information in it.
However it is my contention that SmartSafe is nothing like the failsafe that
we love so much. As a matter of fact I see nothing smart or safe about it.
Here is a direct quote from the Spektrum information manual
Gordy,
You asked for a review of the articles. Having read the articles I felt they
were clear and well organized.
In the first Sherman focused on what he felt were key advantages of the 2.4 GHz
system. Much of the article was either quotes from the manual or the marketing
material, which he

Mike is right. It definitely makes a difference on how it is built. I built a
great one and then bought one that someone else built. It has been the worst
flying plane I've ever had. I have almost got it re-built. The stab was over
2 oz (average is .7 to.8 oz). It took so much lead in the

Hi Chris --
Magnet wire works great - I've used it in a few DLGs, and to Bill's
point, the joint is pretty important :)
