In addition to preparing for Poway, our club webmaster has been able to put some video and still images on the Baltimore Area Soaring Society's web site. http://soarmd.org/ We had two days of competition with flight groups of 8 to 10 pilots and timers on the field. With the cooperation and common sense of the contestants, 46 flight groups of 10 minutes each, almost 8 HOURS, of launching and flying took place WITHOUT a launching accident. Were there mid-airs? You bet, but not from launching. Phil Barnes, the eventual overall winner experienced three in the same flight, possible the same thermal. (Not only is Phil a great builder and flyer, he is real good at drawing a crowd!) Discus launching will become the launching method. There is no reason it cannot be done safely in competition venues. Thanks again to all that made the event so much fun. Mark you calendars for early May 2002. We'll be back!
