Suppose that in addition to making your time and hitting your landing,
points could be awarded for the "gentleness" of the landing.   "How?" you
ask.  Well, what we need is a relatively inexpensive accelerometer that
would measure the deceleration (impact) of the landing.  As an example, a
landing deceleration of more than 2 g's minus 50 points, 1-2  g's minus zero
points, less than 1 g plus 50 points.  These decelerations and points are
strictly a guess.  Some of you engineer types can refine this, as well as
suggest a suitable instrument for measuring the landing impact.
Just think of it no more lawn-dart landings.  Less wear and tear on our
toys, More skill required.  Bigger point spreads in scoring.
