Hi Marco,
I'm upgrading now my Soekris 5501 bios with Minicom and Ubuntu (my
workstation now).
My step:
-check if lrzsz is installed or apt-get install lrzsz
-start minicom and ctrl-p to comBIOS Monitor
-download the bios from soekris.com
-On minicom ctrl a+z and O (cOnfigure), my serial port

Tried 'cu/lsx' method - it worked the first time...
The cu/lsx approach is described here: (Google: soekris bios cu)

One problem I ran into many times on minicom was failing to turn off

Hi
The ConMute BIOS is apparently new to the 5501. I have been unable to
find a user's manual for the 5501 so I (try to) use the manual for the
4801 instead.
After having used the hints from the 5501 Mystery - to me - at boot
time thread I was able to get the 5501 to boot without a serial

Do the Via nics built into this unit have vlan support?

There was just a massive MFC of the em(4) into the stable branch. It
supports TOE and presumably all of the hardware VLAN Tag and Checksum
functions.
Try a NetBSD 4 RC2

The 5501 is vr(4) based. FreeBSD 7.x's vr driver
Ok I was pointed to the FreeBSD 6.2 release notes which indicates that vlan is
not supported with the vr driver but the Release 7 will support it. Does anyone
know of a way to make this work in 6.2?

I solved my net5501 VLAN problems (with m0n0wall 1.3B4) by adding a $30
Intel Pro 1000 GT PCI card... assuming a single tagged port is
sufficient, with the vr ports as untagged.
