Well, if nothing is going on at all, it's hard to see why the index would increase. So I suspect _something_ is going on. Possibilities: 1 you have indexing activity going on. Even if it's just replacing docs that already exist, which is actually an add and a delete the index will grow for a

Why do you think that during a backup any write activity would corrupt your backup? Solr backs up live indexes all the time, that's what's happening, in effect, when you replicate from a master to a slave. There's no requirement that the master stop indexing. The replication backup command Ahmet

See admin/analysis, it's invaluable. Probably The terms are being searched against your default text field which I'd guess is not title. Also, try adding debug=all to your query and look in the debug info at the parsed form of the query to see what's actually being searched. Best Erick On

Search depends only on the index. But... returning field values for each of the matched documents does require access to the stored values. So, search time is in no way impacting by the existence or non-existence of stored values, but total query processing time would of course include both

Here's the normal path to the example configuration in Solr 4.1: .../solr-4.1.0/example/solr/collection1/conf That's the directory in which the example schema.xml and other configuration files live. There is no solr-4.1.0/example/conf directory, unless you managed to create one yourself.

Ok, I have created a processor which manages to update the external file. Basically, until a commit request, the hidden document IDs are stored in a Set and when a commit is requested, a new file is created by copying the last one, then the additional IDs are appended to the external file. Now
