This issue has now been fixed. It turned out that the patch was
misapplied
when it was committed into CVS (several lines were out of place; partly my
fault, partly not, but accidents happen), which had the side-effect of
shifting the panic further into modem_run but not eliminating it.
The

Hello
I have used the Speedtouch modem on SuSE8, 8.1, 8.2 et 9.
I am currently using the kernel mode driver because I believe (as Duncan
once said) that it is a bit faster.

feeling less and less confident that the firmware is being loaded
into my modem properly, I don't really see any of the lights flash as I plug
it in, or as it boots up - they just both come on green and stay like that.
Is there a way to check - would it be in a log file somewhere?
Thanks,

(and no doubt some others although I'm unsure
what), presumably I need some dev tools rpms.
Thanks,

Is there any reason why the kernel module does not include all of
modem_run's functionallity in it?
linux kernel 2.6.x has it's own firmware upgrade api.
Also, the kernel speedtouch driver could handle it's own USB interrupt
endpoint, and thus handle it's own link up/down status.

Nice hey, these archives that need you to utilize unzip, gzip
.
For example. I run modem_run to upload the firmware to the modem, and
hotplug then jumps in and runs a second version of modem_run.
Maybe we should add a lock to modem_run so that we can ensure that only
one instance it running at a time.

So, the question needs to be made more specific.
E.g. We need support in order to respond to incoming F4 OAM segment flows.
or We need to be able to detect AIS and FERF alarms.
