Did you try Dansguardian http://www.dansguardian.org too?
The only thing that is holding Dansguardian back from being used is that
afaik when I download a file I have to download it through a download
manager or directly by clicking on a link on a webpage.

Where did you get that fact? I don't recall that being true.
I got it from several sites and my collegue. Didn't get anything in
changlogs of squidclamav or libc-icap-mod-squidclamav
http://packages.debian.org/wheezy/libc-icap-mod-squidclamav.
