I am hoping to make a globe dial and would like to use
a metal or ceramic sphere (250 to 300mm diameter)
with a matt surface that would show day/night separation reasonably well,
with longitude and latitude grid and outlines of continents on

How about getting a stainless steel (or mirrored glass) gazing ball (maybe 50
to $100), and then have it sandblasted to give it a matt finish? You could
even mask off the markings, such as hour lines and numerals.

Hello All,
This is off topic, but I just bought a beautiful large wall clock
which looks like a great value. It's about 20 in diameter and has a
substantial oak case. There are 3 time dials, one of which only
displays seconds, driven by 3 quartz 1.5 volt movements.
