I have been running my farm house from a generator/battery setup for over a
year now and it is great but not with out its problems.
The average house energy efficient home will use between 6Kw and 10Kw per
day assuming your hot water is gas/solar and your cooking is gas.
The problem is with the
How many 900 amp batteries does it take to make 50 kw?

if you need 10kWh/day, you need a 50kWh pack
you can replace at 20% of the pack rating, IIRC.

Who really gives a damn what car companies think of biodiesel? The
people who make it and use it are the ones who know what they are
doing and know that they are not damaging their engines. They are the
experimentors, the people who are willing to accept the risks of

Using a genny to power a house is OK, as long as you have a readily
available supply of fuel, and you only need electric for about 4
hours a day. We have run our house and farm on a diesel genny for 25
years, with no problems. It's a 2.5kw lister 6/1 unit and runs from
about 6pm till 10 pm

You must remember that the batteries take all the load and the generator

What we're talking about is co-generation, and the engine would run most

unfortunately, if the car companies don't give a nod of approval, then
biodiesel will not get widely sold at the pump, and we won't get off the
fossil fuel teat.

since Trojan suggests not discharging below 80% that gives you 10kWh's daily

hot, and your battery bank recharged. solar will help minimize the

You run the alternator and charge batteries to provide only small loads. You
schedule your loads in other words.
Washing machine is run when engine/alternator is run. This places hot water
demand in phase with generation, a good thing too.
Don't forget-- not only are batteries unhappy with high
Hello,
I am getting ready to convert my '90 VW to run on SVO. I have a few
questions which I hope you can help me with.
1. Does SVO affect copper and vice versa?
2. Since diesels are so efficient the fuel is not used very quickly, therefore
even though you have kept the oil warm right

Does anyone remember seeing photos of how Ford Model Ts used to be used to
run the sawmill with some jacks and a big ol' belt on the rim instead of a
tire? I think they just kept a spare rim around for a quick change.
