The Morro Bay-based American Biodiesel Buyers Club will host a vegetable oil waste collection site Sunday at the Green Light Eco Faire at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church.

The event, sponsored by the Eco Rotary of Morro Bay, will be from noon to 5 p.m. The church is located at 962 Piney Way in Morro Bay.

Community members are encouraged to bring any used cooking oil, even if it has food bits in it, for recycling into biodiesel for diesel vehicle use.

The club is hosting the event to “raise awareness about sustainable biodiesel, and to spread the message that a safe, clean, alternative fuel can be made from this common household waste,” a news release said. All proceeds from the donated oil will go to the Eco Rotary of Morro Bay.

Participants are asked to bring their used vegetable oil in a sturdy plastic container. Questions about how to buy, use and store biodegradable, alternative fuel will be answered at the event.

The American Biodiesel Buyers Club, Corp. (aka The Biodiesel Club) is a 501c3 non-profit with the mission of education people about the benefits of using sustainable Biodiesel to lower peoples' exposure to diesel fuel, fumes and exhaust.

Our programs are designed to provide a means for people who use or work around diesel vehicles to reduce polluting diesel exhaust in their area as well as lower their own exposure to the toxic chemicals in diesel fuel and fumes.

Commercial Biodiesel (B99 methyl esters) is an alternative fuel made from natural, renewable sources, such as new and used vegetable oils, for use in any diesel engine. Sustainable biodiesel is defined as biodiesel that was produced from waste vegetable oil (WVO), organic crops, or non-crop sources.
