Biodiesel is Good for U.S. Soybean Farmers
By Andy Eubank - May 4, 2015
Whether on a farm or in a big city, biodiesel works and benefits U.S.
soybean farmers. Biodiesel uses more than 25-percent of the soybean oil
processed in the U.S., giving a significant return to soybean farmers.
As a self-proclaimed biodiesel junkie since 2005, Nebraska soybean
farmer and soy checkoff farmer-leader Greg Greving says the proof is
there that biodiesel has helped the bottom lines of U.S. soybean farmers.
“There was a study done a few years ago that the amount of biodiesel
that’s been put on the market has added about 74 cents a bushel to every
bushel of soybeans that’s sold here in the United States. So, you do the
math.”
Whether in the Midwest or on the east or west coast, biodiesel demand
from various customers brings economic benefits back to U.S. soybean
farmers.
U.S. soybean farmers have supported the biodiesel industry’s growth
through the soy checkoff, which continues supporting biodiesel research
and education conducted by the National Biodiesel Board.
