will (rightly) reject the document otherwise. - when you create your own vocabulary, you can just put the elements in your namespace, you don't have to put the attributes on them in the namespace as well. I suggest just dropping the namespace on them. -- Robin Berjon

are not implemented yet (moz) - svgDocument is an obvious error (you) - you create elements with createElement() instead of createElementNS(), which means the elements are not in the SVG namespace (you). After fixing that it works, even though the filters don't render. -- Robin Berjon

the DOM in general doesn't react to the default namespace at all. So given that you can't assume a default namespace, not giving one means you don't get one. Try it yourself: create an element with createElement() and look at its namespaceURI field, it'll be null. -- Robin Berjon
