believe not including the framing characters in the length value makes
a lot of sense; in fact, FRAME-LEN should perhaps have been MSG-LEN to
start with. Taking any process issues aside, I would be in favor of
such a change.

implementors expect and find easier.
We seem to have some evidence that the current format makes things
more complex to get implemented than it needs to be and I have not
seen yet a technical argument in favor of the current format.

This object now again talks about sending syslog messages. I am still
confused. Before we beat this further, it might be useful to agree
what the purpose and usage of these objects is going to be.

For that, such a paper would be indeed useful.

SNMP master agent via AgentX (of a similar mechanism) so I can
transparently access the MIB by talking to the main SNMP agent on the

simpler. We can specify what level of review is needed - no need to
agree a new RFC for every change.
Note that the number space is very limited and that determines whether
extensions are actually possible or not...

making this also a syslog requirement. I think we should not use MUST
language for something that can only be implemented correctly below
the syslog software layer.

If the text is important (and I tend to agree it is), then it should
