A couple weeks ago I noticed on the USATF.org site that the Women's Pole
Vault final at the USATF Indoor Championships is scheduled for Friday
afternoon (4:15 PM). I was hoping that someone would realize this was not a
good idea since it is likely the premiere event of the meet (if Stacy is

Alright, I get the picture. Everyone seemed to agree that the best thing to
do would be to go see our Ncaa Compliance officers (i knew they were good
for something!).
But seriously, i was planning on doing that, but had been talking to the
other redshirts yesterday and didn't want to wait for
C'mon! I find it hard to believe there was a single instance where the crowd
was not allowed to perform like the living entity that all crowds are. When
there something soul-stirring happened, 20,000 butts rose as one, and nobody
had the mildest complaint. The cops weren't automotons; they felt
1500m and 5000m exist because they are fairly
"round" numbers and are the closest "round" numbers to the 1 mile, 3 mile, and 6
mile events that have been run since at least sometime in the 19th
century.
Yes, I agree that 1500m is only slightly more round
than 1600m, but at this point with
Angelos Pavlalakis was the best athlete of the first day of the Greek Indoor
Championships, held today in Pireaus. Pavlakakis won in 6" 55. the best
european mark for this season. Charris Papadias returned, 2 years after his
injury, he ran only in a preliminary heat and clocked 6" 74.

The sole meet record was by Keith Kelly of Providence in the 3000. Pulling
teammate Hamish Thorpe along through twelve laps, Kelly finished with a

track at UK that plays host to the SEC Championships this

I think the best we can hope for out of 2004 will be a 2nd entrance and
better crowd control. That front entrance was a nightmare. An event that
big will always draw folks that don't normally attend such events and
hate those that do because we stand and enjoy the meet. Plan on that
