It's close to 1 a.m. Saturday, Pacific time. More than two and half hours ago,
Stanford's Web site posted news of Meb's American record in the 10,000 at the Cardinal

quick-off-the-mark sports copy desk,

WOW...what a fabulous 10,000 last night at Stanford. The weather at 9:15

The following debate came up at a high school track

Watching last night's 10k at Stanford was certainly an other-wordly
experience. Here on a balmy windless evening under a full moon, ideal for a
stroll by young lovers, a pack of men set out on a fast run accompanied by a
dozen of Gabe Jenning's percussionists. Right from the start, the

I thought FAT timing in 10.96 was the most accurate way to measure success?
Wouldn't that mean that someone who ran 10.95 would have beaten him and he
would have finished ahead of someone who ran 10.97, no matter what their
age? Seems like no tables are necessary this way.

I think Jon and the parents and the coach may have missed something about
the school girls who were sprinters in the spring, ran cross-country and in
the subsequent spring, could not sprint as well. I suspect they just grew.
They got bigger and heavier and slower. The fiber type didn't change,

freshman and top 5 on the US Junior list. Anyone have the facts?
Sage turns 20 on October 5 (this calendar year), so I think that rules out
junior list status, no?
I don't know the entire science of it, but from experience, we at Pioneer HS
in Ann Arbor, MI had several females with huge improvements in sprint times
from running cross country. One such runner went from the 59's as a
freshman to the 54's as a senior. Another improved in the 100, 200, 400.
