Well, as long as we're on the thread of religious texts vs. running books, a
favorite of mine that I stumbled on years ago and is helpful for both
running and living is the Tao Te Ching, the ancient Taoist text purportedly
left behind by Lao Tzu. The Arthur Whaley translation is considered the
Further Amplification on the Tao Te Ching and how it relates to running:
On the subject of overtraining: If you sharpen a blade too much, it becomes
dull...
On the subject of know-it-all coaches: Those who say don't know, those who
know, don't say. (does that sound like one of the mysterious
in the company of President Bush. Is that how it is now--everyone over 50
(who used to go 4:30) is now a 6:00 miler?
I'd love to see a celebrity mile between Cooper and Bush, maybe at this
year's Penn Relays? Shades of Keino vs. Liquori?

Frank is a columnist. Columnists regularly indulge in hyperbole and
overstatement. If you've ever read Jim Murray, Scott Ostler, or any other
greats, you would know this goes under the heading of literary license.
