Can anyone provide some insight on how fields for various Golden League
events are assembled? I ask because it has been disappointing this year to
see the mile contested at Oslo and Rome with nary a U.S. (or U.K.) runner
in sight. Lassiter and Berryhill are active this season in Europe, and

Ive havent seen this issue addressed yet on the list, so I thought Id
throw it out for debate before I send in my check.
Although it isnt in quite the same league as the Personal Seat License
(PSL) scam perpetuated by pro sports teams, the Sacramento Sports

With Dennis Mitchell on the verge of retirement, the U.S. national team
should adopt his Green Machine ensemble (with a little flag stuck
somewhere to cover the Red, White Blue requirement) as its new
uniform. No one will ever have a problem again (unless Nike starts pumping

On the eve of the vote for the 2008 Olympic venue, I wonder if anyone can
point me to a book or other reference materials that describes the
selection process for the host cities of previous games. Beijing certainly
faces some negative sentiment in its bid, but I suspect it pales in
For those unable to attend, I thought I would offer some commentary on
several of the events at the just-completed Mt. SAC Relays:
The distance carnival was held Friday night under conditions unusual this
time of year in California: cold and windy, with rain. As I overheard one

Can anyone provide information on the severity of the injury that made
Kevin Little a DNS in the WIC 200m final?
I hoped he would win another World title so I could ask this question, but
I'll ask it anyway: Is Kevin the most accomplished indoor runner ever who

I work in the computer biz, and thought I was accustomed to the rapid march
of technology. However, when my trusty stopwatch of some 20 years finally
clicked off its final time, then died, at last week's L.A. Invitational, I
wasn't prepared for what I would find in my search for a new one.
If you're about to be lapped in a race, is it a requirement to move out a
lane, or is it just the polite thing to do?
I ask because at Saturday's L.A. Invitational, Jonathon Riley lost a chance
to dip under 4 minutes in the mile when a collision with a lapped runner
forced him off the track
Perhaps, like me, you have taped numerous track meets over the years. And,
like me, you've found that although you are impressed by the sight of your
growing pile of tapes, your wife or S.O. doesn't share your
enthusiasm. You've received your marching orders: shrink the mound, or

NBC's track field coverage makes sense if you think of it as one long
trailer to promote the Olympic Track Field video that they now are
hawking ($19.95) at NBCOlympics.com. Want uninterrupted action, continuity
and the opportunity to avoid synchronized diving? Break out your credit card.
Would anyone who taped the Monaco meet on ESPN and is willing to sell, rent
or lend me a copy please contact me off list. I was there, but it all
happened so fast that I'd like to have a chance to relive the meet.
Thanks,
Robert
Missing thus far from the results of European meets we've seen posted to
the list is any hint as to how well they were attended. Can any observers
brief us on how well the meets already run have drawn? We've read of the
demise of several European meets in the past year or two, so I'm curious
