When I was railing against the IAAF's rule mandating the 3-turn stagger in the 4x4 the
other day, i missed something in the rules I had forgotten. And even though nobody
else has called me on it, I'll turn myself in.

A week after his historic sub-4 Mile in New York, South Lakes VA sr Alan
Webb tried on the 1000 meter distance for record size at the Microtel
Virginia Tech Invitational. He didn't get the record but he came within
0.28 seconds at 2:24.13, good for 3rd best ever among US high school boys.

vaulted 4.58m (15' 1/4") today in Karlsruhe, bettering Nicole
Rieger-Humbert's European Indoor Record of 4.56m and regaining the Russian
national record from Yelena Isinbayeva.

Interesting we were just talking about the top guys in H.S. being out
performed later by other athletes. In that thread i talked about
Mike I was at that NY state meet competing int he
1600m the year Irish pulled that double. I asked him
the night before why such an odd double, and he simply
said "why not?". He was awesome to watch, and it
seems in the duece he was falling off the pace late,
but his incredible speed brought
This reminds me of a similar odd double. In 1993, Marko Koers ran the 600
and the 3000 at the indoor Big Ten meet. He won the 600 and was 4th or
5th in the 3000 (which he ran in a body suit!).
