Steve

Sorry for the delay in responding. I've been considering your comments:

1. You really only want bike routes that have some sort of external
source, and preferably local signage for them.

I'm tending to agree with you now that OSM should be a formal map of actual
physical features. Perhaps the time to put a 'Hume & Hovell Trail' on OSM is
when and if someone can drive a project similar to the Goulburn River High
Country Rail Trail, to have signage placed and the trail publicized. I think
touring cyclists would find this a very scenic, safe and interesting 4-5 day
tour with an historical background to it. In the mean time Bikely.com is a
suitable web site to publish bike routes and this is what I have done. I
will remove the H&H Trail relations from OSM.

2. .......... show explorers routes overlaid on normal maps.

This is probably a question to raise on the tagging mailing list. It's an
issue that gets debated in various forms. It depends a lot on whether there
is any physical manifestation of the historical event.

I still believe this sort of historical information makes maps valuable,
providing there is a suitable historical tag for it. I may follow your
suggestion to raise this issue on the tagging mailing list. How would I get
on to the tagging mailing list? In the mean time I will remove the original
explorers route from OSM.

I have at least been able to add missing roads, improved the accuracy of
existing road location and corrected road names in OSM that follow my H&H
Trail all the way from Wodonga to Broadford.

Again thank you for your interest and comments.

Regards

Mark R.
