Thanks, Hiroaki. I didn't know about \Contpiece either. But after my post, I figured out that \startpiece also does the job. And now I realize that for my purpose I wanted the bar numbering also to be reset to 1, which \startpiece does. So to do it in PMX, you can use the redefinition trick:
