[time-nuts] CS frequency standard

The tube has a finite life time (probably less than 7 years of on-time, maybe as low as 3 years) and costs a BUNCH to replace. I only run mine when I need to. I warm mine up overnight before I use it to let it stabilize. Plus make sure you run it for a day or two every 6 months or so to keep

It's the ion-pump that needs running. Then, the OCXO needs heating before running the cesium tube. Cheers, Magnus On 07/10/2015 07:25 PM, Pete Lancashire wrote: Pretty much the same as Paul, I do it every 4 months. I'll soon have a timer to turn the unit on a few hours every 120 days or

As Mark says the tubes have a very finite life. So like him I turn mine on as needed and every 6 months. My tube is on absolute fumes and is very very marginal. But it still locks on its own in something like 16 hours with almost impossible to see beam current. So if you follow the every 6 months

Few people need the CS on all the time. The other funny thing on the HP series you can turn the tube off and just use the OCXO after its been adjusted accurately. I run my HP 5065a Rb the same way. Power as needed and every 6 months. So you are very lucky to have a good CS. Rbs are a bit

I lucked out on a very squeaky clean FTS 4060 CS standard. Started up right away and appears to have a strong tube. My question for those in the know: I don't appeal to the standard very often. Should I leave it on all the time, on a UPS, or start it up when I need it? I'm 76. If I leave it on,
