Thanks to all for the comments. I recently traded for another Z3801A
that I was told didn't work. I don't know what is wrong with it, as I
haven't had time to put it on the bench yet. I understand that the
OCXO is putting out a decent 10 MHz, so perhaps it also has a bad
Oncore.

Could just be that the older Encore requires a hotter signal. Try
without the 4-port splitter, those do introduce some attenuation.
But then if you have an amplifier that's not it.

Hi
A lot of “dead” Z3801’s have a blown fuse link input on the power supply. I’d
check
that first.

When an old electronic gizmo starts failing across multiple units, the culprit
is almost always failing electrolytic capacitors. Check your GPS board for
electrolytic caps and replace them. There could be some other component that
is susceptible to an age-related failure mode, but caps are

I decided to do a re-survey with my Z3801A that has been in holdover
for some time, just as a test. Watching the status screens

The newer Motorola VP-Oncore receivers are known to be an improved
design over the original Oncores that came with the Z3801A's .
I have recently done some side by side comparison's with two z3801A's
on the same antenna the newer Vp-Oncore's ran SS numbers 15-30 points
higher on the
