The developmental textbook I'm using (Berg) says that the Canadian
television industry has a voluntary code that requires the consequences of
violence to be shown in all children's programs, as a result of a petition
organized by a teenager in 1992 who believed that TV violence contributed to
his sister's rape and murder, and signed by over 1 million people.

She also pointed out that American programs that violate the code slip
through on Canadian cable TV.

I'd like to discuss this voluntary code in my class, and am interested in
thoughts of Canadian colleagues. While I doubt that few of you spend much
time watching children's television, still I would expect there to be some
general feeling across the land about whether or not the programs generally
adhere to this code.

Thanks for input,
