One of my closest friends and a person who had tremendous influence on my life passed away last week.It was while I was studying to be a Trappist monk at the Abbey of Gethsemani in Kentucky (under the tutelage of Thomas Merton) that I first met Phil and his bother Dan Berrigan Phil was a Josephite Priest and Dan was a Jesuit. It was those two brothers who were instrunental in getting me a scholarship to Gannon University. Phil worked with blacks in the South.But those two were anti-war activists-the Catonsville 9 and the Milwaukee 14- and went underground fo a period of time.As a matter of fact I was visited by the FBI while a student at Wichita State. Phil,Che' Guevara,Thomas Merton ,Tim Leary- Gone but not forgotte.
