Tetrachromatic, or even possibly pentachromatic, color vision is apparently the norm among pigeons (refs below). So the intriguing possibility of aberrant (i.e., greater than trichromatic) color vision in humans does not seem so farfetched. Pat Cabe Emmerton, J., Delius, J. D. (1980).
