Thanks for the detailed answer. It worked in the way that I could
install php4-yaz, but now I have a new problem. Everytime I want to
install a new package on the server, apt-get informs me that something
is broken, and that php4-yaz will be removed.

The KDE color chooser has options to select color sets. When I try to
select 'named colors' kde complains that either of :

The reason I could not build, is that there are duplicate .h files in
the linux-headers tree and in the linux-wlan-ng tree. By removing the
wlan and prism2 directories in /usr/src/linux-
headers-2.6.17-6/include I was able to compile the modules (using sudo
module-assistant build linux-wlan-ng).
As I understood it, address based filtering could/would have been done
with the multiple files approach too. However the capabilities based
approach sounds really good. AFAICS it achieves basically the same in a
simpler way. Simpler = more secure.

dirty hack which permits to create a 'ghost' phpapi package, so php4-yaz
can install normally.

doesn't work is that the zenity support is broken (zenity is an app to
show GUI dialogs).
Commenting out lines 22,23,24 makes pppoeconf work again here. I suspect
everyone here for whom this script fails has zenity installed.
The tty* jobs are in the upstart package, and as it doesn't depend on
upstart-compat-sysv, this is somewhat tricky.
I think the final solution is migrating essential things from rcS to
upstart jobs. Then tty* can be made start on a suitable event from them.
In the meantime, you can modify

The version of xorg metapackage is 1:7.0.22 in edgy, but
the version is in fact 7.1.1.
I guess there is some reason for that, but that means that version means
nothing.
Lot's of people could believe that edgy will run the old 7.0 and in
distrowatch, the version of xorg for

I can see this as well if an ethernet cable is plugged in with a delay of one
minute or so.
there is no delay if the cable is unplugged, i.e. if NetworkManager brings down
the eth0 interface.
Also applications invoked as the root user take about the same time
before they show up on the desktop.

As far as I understand gksuexec should accept only userA password, exactly like
sudo... Using userB password should not work.
So when you're logged in as UserA, you gksudoexec with userA password
and select userB. You need to have permissions for this of course...
