I'm seeing this as a real problem too. I have a machine with root on
/dev/sdb1 (Just a SATA disk with ext3, nothing fancy), and update-grub
puts the UUID reference in kopts, however the kernel only seems to work
with root=/dev/sdb1.

set vga=773 in grub menu.lst (two places as in latest edgy)
the text when X is running is randomly coloured as are some parts of pictures.
the effect is very noticable.
Sorry, my package hint is wrong. It's the kernel first booted on the
installation CD that has this problem, not the kernel that subsequently
gets installed.

Happens also on my Dell Inspiron 9400. Running Kubuntu 6.06 with no
problem on the shutdown.
Tried fully updated kubuntu edgy = and the strange noise is there

This was classified as a kernal bug, but edgy and feisty run different
kernels.
in Kubuntu Edgy libglu1-mesa-dev is available but it fails to install
due to dependencies problems with libglu1-mesa.

I can see what needs patching as-above (very simple really), but I need
to know in what form to create a patch (i.e. where to put the source-
tree directories w.r.t. each other with what names and any special flags
on diff to use).
Will somebody point me at relevant help/information on this?

eth1 (my cisco wireless card) is up after boot, but no ip address is
assigned; running /etc/init.d/networks restart solves the problem.
I had no such hassle under dapper - could this be related?

For me it's even worse: Most of the times, some of the files that
couldn't be saved are gone the next time I start rhythmbox. Not only
