I'm now that far that I know what's causing the error.
What I don't know is why this error is generated at the place it is, in my
opinion the reason has no relation with the error.
When I modified the display settings from within KDE, KDE wrote a new xorg.conf
file.

The developers have now released source code for 2.4.6 which supposedly builds
with Gutsy. However my initial attempts at a build have failed. As the 2.2.6
binary is broken in Gutsy there is still no way to migrate from Fiesty if you

on an Acer Extensa 4420-5874 AMD X2 TK-55, ATI X1250

I have the same problem with an Ati X1200 integrated in chipset AMD RS690M.
I have copied the xorg file generated by the ubuntu 7.10 livecd, and it works
now.
I think the problem is not in vesa driver, beacuse of the output in xorg.log

A strace suggests it waits for a futex forever.
In the ubuntu repositories (amd64) there is version 1.8 beta3, the
stable version is missing... I tried with the executable of the stable
version (1.7.2) from debian and it works
Forgot to say that with gvba (GTK executable) it works correctly, the
bug happens only with the GUI-less executable.
I'd like to be able to use the GUI-less version since the GTK one has
very choppy sound...

Hi,
This bug can be closed as I haven't encountered this error in Kubuntu
Feisty Final. I recently used ubiquity again on some one else's computer
and managed to repartition his disk without problems. Maybe my install
cd from April 2007 was corrupt or the partition (table) on my pc had
corruption

Same problem here.
Rebooting is not an option when running a LiveCD in VMWare. That would require
a vmware disk. That is not the way a Live CD should work.
