Yes, for myself I do need runlevels.
Say, if I want to turn on sshd in rc1 in some special case, and it would be
very easy for me, just link /etc/init.d/ssh in /etc/rc1.d would work. However,
if I use your method, I have to modify the /etc/init.d/ssh, and I might mess it
up. This is dirty

As I mentioned in comments to the report on the related Bug 190378,
several weeks ago I had used nvidia-xconfig in an attempt to enable the
proprietary driver. That might be the source of the bad settings for my
monitor.
However, until I can figure out why X is crashing using the non-

I have possibly found the problem. Several weeks ago, I was having
difficulty figuring out how to install the proprietary nvidia driver. I
tried nvidia-xconfig. Perhaps that is the source of the reference to
type1 fonts and to the incorrect settings for the Dell 2405 FPW monitor

Thanks for getting back to me. I'm using Gutsy.
To trigger the error:
I selected calendar under evolution
I enter an appointment, then double click the entry to edit its details
I press the alarms button on the dialog box for an alarms dialog box
I select Customize as the alarm type and press
Sorry, I left out an important detail--
in the add-custom-alarm box I also selected the audio file (wav) I
wanted to be used as the alarm.

Custom calendar alarm causes computer to beep rather than to play the specified
sound; evolution-alarm-notify treats sound URI as simple filename
For reasons unrelated to this bug report, I am sending this message from
a gutsy session. (See my bug reports Bug 190378 and Bug 190381)
