Same problem here on my R61. Brightness stopped working after a Hardy
upgrade a few days ago.
Also, when I press the brightness keys there is a 3 second delay before
the indicator pops up - the level bar goes up and down but the
brightness does not change.

Lain, the build errors can be fixed by adding the line unexport CFLAGS
LDFLAGS in debian/rules (I put it at line 4). With that line ppm builds fine
in a hardy pbuilder.
With your patch I could also install ppm in the pbuilder, where 30ppm did not
exist yet. Without your fix that failed, so your
Confirmed adding AddARGBGLXVisuals to xorg fixed it for me as well.

I've done several installations with gutsy and hardy, in KVM and on real
hardware, using the Finnish keyboard layout, without any problems. I've
chosen English as the language on some systems, and Finnish on others.

it seems that error is caused by grub-install sda insted grub-install
/dev/sda, like says Demortes and I see at syslog, so I think that is not a
bug.
I set to Invalid, and if someone else thinks that it's a bug can reopen it.
