Well, for the external monitor I can change resolutions now. However,
changing resolutions for the internal display still does not work,
because I cannot un-clone the displays (seperate them from each
other). Although clone screens is NOT checked, screens are always
cloned.
On a second (desktop)
I still cannot re-activate the internal display after deactivating it. I
don't think anything has changed since my first report. This is all on a
dist-upgraded Hardy today.

fglrx driver.

To see if this was a problem with the hardware kvm is presenting, I
recompiled kvm 1:28-4ubuntu2 (from gutsy) on hardy and used the
following:
$ qemu-img create -f qcow2 a1.img 4G
$ kvm -M pc -m 128 -smp 1 -boot d -cdrom
/srv/vms/isos/hardy/hardy-server-amd64.iso -usb -vnc 127.0.0.1:1 -hda

Well, u-u-s wasn't even subscribed, done that now. Just want to add my
recommendation for the sync: At this point, grub2 is mostly used for
testing, and is rapidly evolving upstream, so it makes sense to ship the
most recent version. The latest fixes seems important enough.
